The Federal Criminal Court of Rio de Janeiro decided to freeze the confiscated funds of the GAS Consultoria project until the sources of the funds are clarified.
Operations in Rio de Janeiro ended a lengthy police operation that resulted in the arrest of the head of GAS Consultoria, Glaidson Acácio dos Santos, last year. He was accused of tax evasion and the creation of a financial pyramid, which resulted in the loss of funds from GAS Consultoria's creditors. The company promised clients a guaranteed return of ten percent or more per year from investing in cryptocurrencies.
The President of the Federal Criminal Court of Rio de Janeiro, Rosália Figueira, recently decided to prohibit the transfer of assets seized as a result of a police operation to recover losses from GAS Consultoria creditors:
“We suspect that more than 400 million reais in cryptocurrencies, real estate, vehicles and jewelry are of illegal origin. Since some of the seized assets have no proven origin, federal police investigators do not rule out that they may belong to terrorists and drug dealers.”
If it is proved that suspicious assets are of criminal origin, they will be confiscated for the state.
The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of the US Department of Justice conducted an audit of the storage of crypto assets confiscated by the Marshals Service. It turned out that the Consolidated Asset Tracking System (CATS) was unable to perform the tasks of daily tracking crypto assets, assessing their value and distribution.
