Chinese messenger WeChat blocks NFT-linked accounts

One of the most popular instant messengers in China, WeChat, has published a new usage policy, according to which all accounts that provide access to cryptocurrencies and NFTs will be blocked.

The new rules prohibit the promotion of issuance, trading, and investment in digital assets, including collectible tokens. Users who violate the ban may be blocked with the wording "carrying out illegal business." The prohibitions also cover NFT trading, this is separately emphasized in the rules.

“WeChat has over 1.1 billion active users in China. The platform has updated its terms of use that prevent trading in cryptocurrencies and NFTs,” said Chinese journalist Colin Wu.

As part of the new rules, WeChat management proposes to block only those users who have repeatedly violated the rules. For ordinary users, the promotion of cryptocurrencies and tokens will end only with a temporary block.

Recall that recently the number of Chinese trading platforms for trading non-fungible tokens has increased five times. The government intends to regulate the operation of these platforms.
