Nvidia lifted hashrate limits for mining on their graphics cards

Video chip manufacturer Nvidia limited mining on its video cards back in early 2021, but now the company has decided to remove the restrictions from new drivers.

The decision to limit the hashrate on video cards was made against the backdrop of a boom in demand for Nvidia video accelerators - miners used them to mine ETH. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a massive shortage of semiconductor chips, so graphics cards have become scarce and their prices have risen significantly. In an attempt to solve the problem, the company switched to the release of video cards with the prefix LHR in the name, on which it programmatically limited the hashrate when mining cryptocurrencies.

In mid-September, Ethereum switched to the Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm, so now it has become impossible to mine ETH using video cards. In addition, the fall of the cryptocurrency market has significantly affected the demand of miners for video cards. And it looks like Nvidia has decided to disable the hashrate limit in their products - in the new driver version, even LHR devices began to give out full power when mining. At the same time, there has been no official announcement of the lifting of restrictions from the company.

Earlier it was reported that after the transition of Ethereum to Proof-of-Stake, the Chinese video accelerator market collapsed - their sales reached the lowest level in history.
