Bitso exchange launches QR payment service for tourists in Argentina

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitso is launching a QR payment service that will allow tourists arriving in Argentina to pay for goods and services with cryptocurrencies without resorting to third-party exchange offices.

Bitso Senior Vice President of Products Santiago Alvarado said that most restaurants, supermarkets and stores in the country are ready to accept payment for their goods and services through QR payments and have entered into an agreement with the exchange.

“By offering this product to foreigners visiting Argentina, we help them make the most of their money and time, avoid exchanging cash for local currency, and make contactless cryptocurrency payments in seconds right from their phones,” said Alvarado.

He explained that this would not only improve the safety of visitors to Argentina, but also avoid unnecessary and often confusing cash exchange transactions in a country where there are more than 14 different dollar exchange rates.

The QR payment service will allow tourists to pay in stablecoins, as well as in bitcoin (BTC) and ether (ETH). The conversion of funds will take place at the time of payment, while the counterparty will receive payment in Argentine pesos.

The Latin American exchange Bitso announced the launch of a digital asset payment system for goods and services in September. According to the project team, this will help all participants and users of the system protect themselves from rising inflation and the volatility of the Argentine peso.
