Netskope: Hackers use SEO tools on Google Sites and Microsoft Azure for phishing

Cybersecurity firm Netskope has warned digital asset owners of an increase in SEO phishing attacks on Google Sites and Microsoft Azure.

According to a report by Netskope, in the first half of 2022, there was an increased activity of attackers using SEO tools on Google Sites and Microsoft Azure to create phishing pages and then steal critical information from digital asset holders. First of all, the owners of MetaMask wallets, as well as clients of the Gemini, Coinbase and Kraken exchanges, became the targets of hacker attacks.

There are two most common methods of stealing personal information. The first is related to obtaining users' wallet seeds directly - scammers offer them to import this data. This method uses the MetaMask phishing site.

The second method is related to obtaining information about user accounts on any of the exchanges. When users enter their information, phishing sites throw an error and suggest that they contact a support operator who is trying to get more information, ostensibly to successfully restore access.

In addition, attackers use themed blogs on popular social networks and SEO optimization tools to distribute links to phishing sites.

Recently, the developers of the DeFi protocol Curve Finance reported a phishing attack, as a result of which users lost more than half a million US dollars in cryptocurrencies.
